Using corrlinks

While paper mail is incredibly special, many incarcerated people now prefer Corrlinks. Corrlinks is an e-messaging platform that enables you to communicate across walls. Thanks to almost a decade of organizing by incarcerated people and their loved ones, calls and emails are now free for both the incarcerated and non-incarcerated person. In contrast, one letter costs around a dollar, which is impossible for many people. If you want a paper-only correspondence, you may want to think about sending some money to enable your pen-pal to purchase supplies.

Like paper mail, guards will read all in-going messages before they are delivered. Because of this, there is a delay between messages being sent and delivery, usually 2-5 days. This screening is done because they like slowing down communication and in order to get people in trouble. Be thoughtful about what you write.

Signing up for Corrlinks

Corrlinks used to require a government ID and debit card, but sign-up has been simplified. If you were unable to sign up in the past, try again!
  1. Go to https://www.corrlinks.com/en-US/account/sign-up and fill out the form

    - Please provide a real email address that you check
    - Leave "identification code" blank
  2. Open your email and click the link to activate your account (didn't get it?)
  3. Fill out the additional information (second image)
    - Note: All incarcerated people you add on Corrlinks will be able to see your phone number and email address. Unfortunately, these are required. If this is a problem, email us
  4. Select Massachusetts, then under PIC # enter the number after the person's name in the intro email we sent you. Include the letter in front of the numbers
    - As soon as you submit their PIC number, the incarcerated person will receive an email telling them you have connected to them
    - Because of the delay in delivering in-going messages, your first message from them may be asking who you are, even if you sent a message already
Go to https://www.corrlinks.com/en-US/account/sign-up and fill out the form (pictured above)

Adding people to your communication list

  1. Log in
  2. Click the Mailbox image
  3. Go to the green bar on the top of the page and click Account Management --> Person in Custody list
  4. Select Massachusetts and enter their PIC #

  5. When you hit Go, the person's prison and name will show up. Make sure these are right
  6. Under Relationship, select friend (or another descriptor if they apply)
  7. Click Enable Email Alert. This will send an message to the email address you signed up with every time you get a Corrlinks message
    - Watch your spam folder for these emails
    - We really recommend this option unless you are committed to logging into Corrlinks at least weekly
  8. Click Accept. As soon as you click, the person will receive a message that you have signed up to write them
  • The sign-up notification is immediate, but your message to your pen-pal will be screened by the prison, so you may get an email asking who you are

Writing a message

  1. Log in
  2. Click the Mailbox image
  3. Go to the green bar on the top of the page and click New Message
  4. Select the person from your list. You can select up to 10 people. They will not be able to see that other people were copied on the email
  5. Write your subject line and email then hit send
    - Remember: your email will be read by the prison with the intention of getting the person you are writing in trouble
    - Don't "joke" about things like escape, sending in contraband, committing crimes, or setting fire to prison

Get an email when you receive a message

You can set this up when you add someone to your contact list, as described above. If you didn't do it when setting up your contact, you can do it after.
  1. Go to the green bar on the top of the page and click Account Management --> Person in Custody list (or click there)
  2. Your list of contacts will populate alphabetically by last name
  3. Find your pen-pal and make sure Enable Email Alert is checked. This will send an message to the email address you signed up with every time you get a Corrlinks message
  • Watch your spam folder for these emails. You may need to change your filters
  •  We really recommend this option unless you are committed to logging into Corrlinks at least weekly on your own
